Scope

What bathroom remodeling covers

One change or every surface. These are the parts of a bathroom we rebuild most often.

Tub-to-shower conversions

The old tub comes out and a walk-in shower goes in, with a low or no curb and a glass panel or door.

Tile showers and walls

Custom tile showers, niches and benches, set by the tile trades we bring in for the job.

Vanities and cabinetry

Vanities, linen cabinets and medicine cabinets sized to the room and the storage you need.

Plumbing updates

New valves, supply and drain lines, toilets and fixtures, done by a licensed plumber.

Lighting

Vanity lights, recessed lights and shower lights, so you are not shaving or doing makeup in a shadow.

Ventilation

Better ventilation so the room dries out after a shower, the first defense against peeling paint and mildew.

Flooring

Tile and other water-resistant floors chosen for a room that gets wet.

Accessibility changes

Grab bar blocking, curbless entries, seats and wider clearances for a parent or for staying in the house longer.

Behind the tile

How Gamache Construction plans a room that gets wet

Bathroom problems tend to start behind the finish, where water gets into the walls or the subfloor. So moisture is the first thing we look at, before the layout and finishes are settled.

  • We evaluate the room for moisture and signs of water damage before the scope is written.
  • Ventilation is improved so the room can dry out between showers.
  • The layout, fixtures and finishes are planned with you, with design guidance available.
  • Plumbing, electrical and tile trades are brought in and coordinated with our carpentry.
  • We handle the permits and inspections, including the plumbing permit.

“A few years ago, Gamache also did a sunroom addition for us, as well as replacing all of our windows and replacing a bathtub with a walk in shower. We were very happy with that work, also!”

“They were very professional and did fantastic work. Contractors who are easy to work with are hard to find, but Chris was just that.”

Our process

How a bathroom remodel runs, start to finish

From the first look at the plumbing to the last walk through the finished room.

  1. Look at the room

We look at the bathroom, the plumbing access and the ventilation, and talk through what you want to change.

  2. Price the options

You get a free written estimate listing the scope, fixture and tile options, and the pricing.

  3. Rebuild the bathroom

Demolition, plumbing and electrical rough-in, inspections, then tile, vanity and trim, with each trade scheduled by our crew.

  4. Walk it together

We walk the finished bathroom with you before the job is closed out, and the labor warranty starts.

FAQs

Bathroom remodeling questions

See the FAQ page for general questions.

Can you replace a bathtub with a walk-in shower?

Yes. We take out the tub and build a walk-in shower in its place, with a low curb or none, and with seating and grab bar blocking.

Can you update only part of the bathroom?

Yes. We can replace just the vanity, the floor or the shower, or remodel the entire room, and the written estimate prices each option.

Who does the plumbing?

A licensed plumber that we bring in and schedule. In Massachusetts, plumbing work requires a licensed plumber and a plumbing permit, and we handle the permits.

Can you fix a bathroom that stays damp or grows mildew?

Yes. We start by evaluating where the moisture comes from, then improve the ventilation so the room dries out, and any repair the damp has made necessary goes into the written estimate.

Can you make a bathroom safer for an older parent?

Yes. Curbless or low-curb showers, grab bars on solid blocking, a shower seat, comfort-height toilets and wider clearances are all part of our accessibility work.

Do you help pick tile and fixtures?

Yes. Design guidance is available for tile, fixtures, vanities, counters and lighting.
