North Grafton, MA kitchens, baths and additions
North Grafton has mill-era houses that have been lived in for well over a century, and newer homes that already need updating. If yours has a kitchen that no longer fits, a bathroom past its time or not enough room, we plan the fix around the house you have and put the scope and price in writing first.

Gamache Construction in North Grafton
Gamache Construction is a family-owned remodeling contractor based in Northborough, Massachusetts, about six miles from North Grafton, a village in the town of Grafton with its own ZIP code. Since 2006 the company has remodeled kitchens, bathrooms and basements and built home additions and garages for Worcester County homeowners. Owner Chris Gamache runs three crews and coordinates the plumbing, electrical and tile trades. Because North Grafton is part of Grafton, permits go through the Grafton Building Department, which Gamache Construction handles. Each job begins with a free written estimate, and labor carries a warranty.
New England Village and what it left behind
For generations North Grafton was called New England Village. Manufacturing started here in 1826 with a mill and tenements on the Quinsigamond River, after the Blackstone Canal Company dammed what is now Hovey Pond in 1824 to hold water for the canal. The mills later passed to Washington Mills, which still makes abrasives here.
A 2007 state heritage landscape report found that the village kept a large share of its original housing, often now under synthetic siding, and the Massachusetts Historical Commission has confirmed New England Village as eligible for the National Register.
- Mill housing. Central-chimney boarding houses on Overlook Street were built for mill workers. Their ornate trim has since been lost, and many village houses now wear synthetic siding. We plan new work to fit the house as it stands today.
- A village green. Whitney Park serves as the village green, with the mills, Hovey Pond and two churches nearby.
- A state hospital turned campus. Grafton State Hospital ran here from 1901 to 1973. Its grounds are now home to the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and the Grafton Job Corps center.
- Commuter rail. Grafton’s MBTA station on the Framingham/Worcester Line is in North Grafton.
“Gamache Construction did a great job repairing my garage after a corner was hit by a car and needed structural repair… They even painted the whole side of the garage to ensure continuity. Well done!”
Repairs that blend in with the rest of the house
On an older house, the goal is work you cannot pick out from across the street. One customer noticed that the crew painted the whole side of his garage after a structural repair so it would match. Gamache Construction holds a 5.0 rating from 34 Google reviews, and we help with the insurance side of structural repairs.
