Fayville home remodeling and additions

Fayville houses come from more than a century of building, from Greek Revival homes to bungalows. When yours needs a better kitchen, a new bath or more room, you want the update to suit the house and the street. We plan it that way, and you see the scope and price in writing first.

Gamache Construction in Fayville

Gamache Construction is a family-owned remodeling contractor based in Northborough, Massachusetts, about eight miles from Fayville, a village in the town of Southborough. Since 2006 the company has remodeled kitchens, bathrooms and basements, built home additions and handled interior painting and garages for homeowners across MetroWest and Worcester County. Owner Chris Gamache runs the crews and coordinates plumbing, electrical and tile trades. Because Fayville is part of Southborough, permits for Fayville projects go through the Southborough Building and Zoning Department, and Gamache Construction files them. Every project starts with a free written estimate and carries a labor warranty.

The village

How Fayville’s history shows up in its houses

Fayville grew up along transportation lines. Massachusetts Historical Commission records trace the village along the Boston and Worcester turnpike, the Agricultural Railway and the Boston and Worcester trolley.

A mix of styles

The same records describe Greek Revival, Italianate, bungalow and Arts and Crafts buildings, with institutional, commercial and industrial buildings from the early 1800s through the first half of the 1900s. A remodel here often means working with old framing, old trim profiles and rooms sized for another era.

Rebuilt after 1896

A fire in 1896 destroyed the A.D. Howe shoe factory and the old meeting hall. The town built Fayville Village Hall at 42 Central Street on that site in 1911, and the Southborough Historical Society took it on in 2022 as the Southborough History and Arts Center.

Recognized as historic

In an opinion on the village hall, Massachusetts Historical Commission staff described the Village of Fayville as eligible for the National Register as a district at the local level, because so many buildings from different periods survive intact.

Planning

What that means for a Fayville remodel

Older village houses reward a careful plan. These are the points we work through before the estimate is final.

  • Matching the existing trim, siding style and rooflines so an addition or new porch fits the street.
  • Opening walls with care, since older framing and wiring can turn up conditions that change the scope. The written estimate lays out the scope and options before work starts, so you know what is included.
  • Checking the septic system before adding a bedroom, since Southborough’s Health Department regulates on-site systems under Title 5.
  • Pulling permits through the Southborough Town House at 17 Common Street and booking each inspection.

“A few years ago, Gamache also did a sunroom addition for us, as well as replacing all of our windows and replacing a bathtub with a walk in shower. We were very happy with that work, also!”
