How a whole-home renovation runs
Whole-home renovation

What does a whole-home renovation with Gamache Construction involve?

A whole-home renovation updates several rooms, or the entire house, under one plan and one estimate. We manage it from demolition and framing through the electrical, plumbing and finish work, and we coordinate every trade so the trim, floors and paint read the same from room to room.

It suits houses that have aged as a whole: a 1970s colonial with the original kitchen and baths, a cape that needs its layout opened up, or a house you just bought and want to make your own before you move in. Doing the rooms together means one round of permits and one sequence of trades, where room-by-room projects repeat both.

If the plan calls for more space than the house has, an addition can be part of the same project.

What stays the same from the first room to the last

  • Chris Gamache runs the crews on site, so one person answers for the whole job.
  • The written estimate lists the scope room by room, with options and pricing, before anything is scheduled.
  • Plumbing, electrical and tile trades are brought in and sequenced by us.
  • Permits and inspections are filed and scheduled with your town.
  • Design guidance is available for layouts, materials and finishes.
  • Labor is covered by a warranty, with manufacturer warranties on installed products.

“Refresh the interior of our 50 year old house”

Chris and his team helped refresh the interior of our 50 year old house. They were very professional and did fantastic work. Contractors who are easy to work with are hard to find, but Chris was just that. I highly recommended Gamache Construction.

“We were very happy with that work, also!”

Gamache did an excellent job on some flooring and painting for us! … A few years ago, Gamache also did a sunroom addition for us, as well as replacing all of our windows and replacing a bathtub with a walk in shower. We were very happy with that work, also!

Our process

How a remodeling project moves from first call to final walkthrough

The steps are the same for a single bathroom and a full renovation. The size of each step changes.

  1. Visit

We walk the house with you, look at what is there now, and talk through what each room needs to do for your household.

  2. Written estimate

You get the scope, the options and the pricing on paper, free, so you can compare choices before committing to anything.

  3. Permits and construction

We file the permits and prepare a detailed schedule, then our crews do the carpentry and finish work with the plumbing, electrical and tile trades brought in in the right order.

  4. Walkthrough

We go through the finished work with you before the job is closed out, and the labor warranty starts.

Cost

What does renovation and remodeling cost?

Your number comes from the written estimate after we see the house. In a renovation, the price follows how much of the house opens up and what the rooms need once they do.

Financing is available

For larger renovations, financing is an option. The financing page covers how to apply.

Financing
  1. How many rooms are in the scopeOne bathroom and a full first floor are priced very differently, and combining rooms shares some setup work.
  2. Walls that moveRemoving or relocating a wall, especially a load-bearing one, adds structural work and inspections.
  3. Plumbing and electrical changesMoving a sink, adding a bathroom or upgrading circuits brings in licensed trades and permits.
  4. The condition of an older houseFraming, wiring or plumbing that has to be brought up to current code once walls are open.
  5. Finish levelCabinetry, tile, flooring, fixtures and trim you choose, from builder-grade to custom.

FAQs

Questions about renovation and remodeling

Room-specific questions are answered on each service page and on the FAQ page.

Can you remodel an entire home?

Yes. We plan and manage whole-home renovations from demolition and framing to finish work, and we coordinate the plumbing, electrical and tile trades so the house is finished to one standard.

Do I need a designer or architect before I call?

No, not for the first conversation. Design guidance is available from our team for layouts, materials and finishes, and the walkthrough and written estimate tell you what the project involves before you commit.

Who handles the plumbing and electrical work?

Licensed plumbing and electrical trades that we bring in and schedule. You deal with us; we sequence them with our own crews.

What happens if the house hides problems behind the walls?

Older houses can have outdated wiring, plumbing or framing that only shows once walls are open. Because Chris Gamache runs the crews directly, you hear about it from the person in charge of the job, and the written scope is the starting point for deciding what changes.

How are costs set and tracked?

With a detailed written scope and estimate before work is scheduled. It lists options and pricing, and our team keeps you updated through ordering and construction.

Do you do roofing, siding or windows as part of a renovation?

Those go to our roofing division, Roofing by Gamache. Gamache Construction handles the interior remodel, additions and painting.

Do you build new homes?

No. We renovate and add on to existing houses, and we take on light commercial renovations.

Service area

Where do we take on remodeling projects?

Our Northborough team works across MetroWest and Worcester County. Towns shown on this site are examples, not a complete boundary for project inquiries. Share your location and the work you are considering so we can confirm coverage for your project.

Start with a walkthrough

Not sure where the renovation should start?

Many projects begin as a list of rooms that are not working. We walk the house with you, sort out which work belongs together, and give you a written estimate you can plan around, one room or the whole house.
